Votes = fundraising!  Stonefields School Hall will be your convenient polling station for the upcoming elections on 23rd September.   The parenting association known as FOSS (Friends of Stonefields School) will be holding a fundraising stand selling cakes and a sausage sizzle.  Please support the school, whilst placing your vote!

The impact of Stonefields School:

The school is well placed to continue to have an impact that goes way beyond the local area. We attract an increasing number of visitors from New Zealand and overseas, who are keen to understand what a future-focused learning and teaching culture, approach and environment might look like. The feedback we gather from these visits show that the school is highly regarded in the global educational community. We believe that the school’s reputation locally and internationally along with a vibrant community have helped increase house prices and desirability of the development.  Should you like a virtual tour of the school please visit The Stonefields Collaborative by clicking here or go to the Visitors (non parent) section of our website www.stonefields.school.nz.

ZONING:

Zoning:  Often we are asked if we will enrol children who live outside of our school zone.  The answer to this is no.  We are zoned and bound by the Ministry of Education rules in this regard, but there is an “however”! Learners enrolled must live within our zone for a full 12 months of schooling to be eligible to remain at the school if their families then move out of the zone.  Each year, however, the Board of Trustees considers if the school is in a position to accept new entrant age siblings of currently enrolled children who have moved out of zone but have fulfilled the 12 month criteria.  Where possible we do not wish to see families split between two or more schools.  In these circumstances a ballot can be opened up in order to enrol the siblings.  Rules of the ballot allow anyone to apply, but as siblings receive a higher priority the placements are offered to the siblings only and everyone else is placed on a waitlist.  Enrolment would only be offered to number one on the waitlist if a sibling turns down the position as per the rules of balloting within New Zealand education.

Todd Property Newsletter: Stonefields Community Update

Not too long ago, the Stonefields Community Network sat down with Hamish Anderson (Todd Property's General Manager of Residential) and Libby Middlebrook (Todd Property's General Manager of External Relations) to highlight the community's desperation for information regarding the development.

We offered our services to relay information on to the residents and to be the link between the two groups, with a possibility of offering space in the Stonefields Community Network's Newsletter. As it turns out, we were all on the same page, only they were already preparing for a more frequent newsletter to come directly from Todd Property themselves.

AND HERE IT IS!

Please feel free to post questions in the comments section below for us to follow up on. (If you can't find the comments box, you will need to click on the title of the article). The Todd Property Newsletter is assisted by requests and input from the community. Libby would like to know the burning questions that are circulating around the neighbourhood. So now is your chance.

It should be noted that Libby has also been influential in a number of the little tidy-up jobs around the area, particularly the track leading up to Mount Wellington, as well as the area opposite the shops, where the apartment sales office was. So thank you Libby! We appreciate all your efforts!

In addition to the newsletter, minor updates are also available on an ongoing basis on Todd Property's Stonefields website. Click here to go to their full webpage

First Stonefields Community Network Newsletter is Here!

Dear all.

After just a few weeks of being up and running, we have delivered your first newsletter. While the first newsletter has been completely set up by us this time, we rely on your input as to the type content you would find most useful. So please post any feedback in the comments section below. Remember, we want the Stonefields Community Network group to simply work as administrators for the community. So have your say to shape your community.

Please also click on the SCN logo above and subscribe. Information and updates will then be easily shared directly to you via email. We aim to cover all aspects of communication networks in order to fit your needs.

Lastly, a huge thank you to our first Sponsor, Tim Carter, the Branch Manager at the Stonefields Barfoot and Thompson's. Tim was onboard early and has made it possible for us to reach you with newsletters every two months. If you would like to be a sponsor for any of the next newsletters (2000 printed), please contact us.

Stonefields Heritage Trail Update 1st Aug 2017

The old quarry road that was gifted by Todd Property to Auckland, is well underway to becoming the Stonefields Heritage Trail. Whilst the initial completion date was planned for July 2017, there have been a number of hurdles that have pushed this date out to potentially September 2017. From what we have heard, there were some issues with the alignment of the fencing along the undulating terrain, causing panels to be adjusted for certain angles. Additionally, rumours are that some delays are due to additional design changes which can only be a good thing for the users.

The Stonefields Heritage Trail currently under construction along the southern edge of Stonefields, Auckland, New Zealand. The trail follows an old quarry haul out road and when finished will provide stunning views across the wetlands and suburb. Music: Undeniable Video: by Brian Lomas

A recent flyover of the trail, by Stonefields Resident Brian Lomas, highlights the significant amount of work that has had to go into the project. The stairs below the shops were a significant amount of work, and as you can see from Brian's Flyover, the gradient certainly required a number of levels. However, this should allow for access to the shops, which has been a major request from the residents.

One of the most stunning features of the Heritage Trail are the significant number of Po that are being placed along the trail. These stunning features truly connect the past with the future, and the placement of some of these gives the opportunity for us to reflect on the history, meaningand the important role we all play as the new Iwi of Maungarei (Mt Wellington). We certainly look forward to hearing more about the meaning behind all of the Po along this altered landscape.

There will be an opening ceremony for the trail according to the Orakei Local Board, so watch this space an we will keep you informed as to when. Bring on Spring!

Timed No Parking Around the School

Auckland Transport have finalised their proposal to put timed No Stopping lines along Vialou Lane and Guyon Street.

By October 2017, cars will not be allowed to park or stop on the non-school side of Vialou Lane and Guyon St, Mon-Fri 8:15-9:15am and 2:30-3:30pm.

A number of submissions were made with ideas to ease the traffic congestion around the School pick up and drop off time. One particular common suggestion was to impliment a one-way system around the school. However, part time one way systems do not exist and could lead to an increase in traffic speeds around the school. Therefore, the time restricted, No Parking concept was designed to discourage drivers to travel along these roads in a direction that would not allow them to park, essentially creating a one way system, but without causing increased speeds as there could still be the chance of cars travelling in the opposite direction.

Additionally, by stopping cars from parking on one side of the road, the often seen log jams of cars be reduced.
